โœจย "Is one T-money card all you need in Korea?"

Not exactly!
While T-money is widely used across Korea, there are key differences in how transitย

cards and transfers work between Seoul and Busan.
If you're new to Korea, understanding these differences can help you travel much more easily.

๐Ÿ“Œ Transit Card Differences

In the Seoul metropolitan area, most people use T-money or Cashbee cards.
These cards are easy to purchase at convenience stores or subway stations, and they work not only in Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi Province, but also in most parts of Korea.

In Busan, T-money is also accepted, but locals more commonly use the Hanaro Card, a regional transit card operated by the Busan city government.
However, some features of the Hanaro Card may be limited or incompatible in the Seoul area or other regions.

โœ… Also, mobile transit cards (e.g., Samsung Pay, Payco) are available, but app functionality may differ by regionโ€”so check before installing!

๐Ÿ”„ Transfer System Differences

In Seoul, you can make up to four transfers between buses and subways.
Transfers are allowed within 30 minutes after getting off, and this extends to 1 hour after 9PM.

Busan is slightly different.
You can transfer up to three times, and the transfer window is within 45 minutes.
After 9PM, like Seoul, it extends to 1 hour.

โš ๏ธ But hereโ€™s a key point:
If you board the same bus number again, it wonโ€™t count as a valid transfer.
And donโ€™t forget to tap your card again when getting off the bus, or youโ€™ll lose the transfer benefit.

๐Ÿง  Common Confusions for Foreigners

โœ”๏ธ You can check your card balance at subway reload machines, bus card readers, or via mobile apps.

โœ”๏ธ T-money works in most areas, but cash refunds for unused balance are often unavailable, so top up only as much as you need.

โœ”๏ธ Hanaro Cards work well in Busan, but may not be usable or rechargeable in other cities.
