My Experience as an International Student Ambassador for DiverCity House.
As an international student living in Korea, I have always been interested in services and communities for international students. This time, I had the opportunity to work as an ambassador for DiverCity House, and it became a very special experience for me.
DiverCity House is a startup that provides real estate services for foreigners looking for housing in Korea. As an international student myself, my role was to introduce this service to other foreigners and share useful information with people living in Korea or preparing to move here.
๐ What I Did
Every month, I had several missions to complete.
One of them was to write and share promotional posts about DiverCity House in foreigner communities.
I wasnโt simply copying and posting an existing advertisement. I had to write the promotional text myself and organize the information in a way that would interest other foreigners.
I also had to share the posts in foreigner communities or group chats at least twice a month.
At first, it was more difficult than I expected.
I had almost no experience with this kind of work, and I didnโt really know what foreigner communities and group chats were available or how to find them.
It was a little stressful, and I wasnโt very confident at first.
Still, instead of giving up, I decided to find solutions step by step.
First, I shared the posts in the foreigner group chats and communities I was already a member of. There werenโt many.
Then I asked my friends whether they knew any foreigner communities or group chats and asked them to share the service with other foreigners if possible.
Through this process, I realized how important foreigner communities are for people living in Korea.
๐ Why Did I Think This Service Was Useful for Foreigners?
I also have personal experience moving from a university dormitory to a one-room apartment in Korea.
When I first moved, I honestly didnโt know where to start.
I didnโt really know how to find a trustworthy real estate agency, and I didnโt even know that there were real estate services specifically for foreigners.
Fortunately, I eventually found a decent real estate agency. But I remember thinking that if I had known about a service like this beforehand, the process would have been much easier.
So, from the perspective of an international student, I realized that this kind of information can be very valuable for people coming to Korea for the first time.

Another mission was to write short articles related to Korean life, culture, university life, and other useful topics for foreigners.
Compared to the first mission, this was a little easier for me because I could write based on my own experiences in Korea.
I thought about things I had personally experienced and information that could be useful to other foreigners, and then organized those ideas into posts.
When necessary, I also looked for information from other sources and checked the details before writing.
Through this activity, I learned something new:
Even ordinary things that I usually take for granted can be useful information for someone else.

๐ฑ What Did I Gain from This Experience?
This ambassador activity gave me much more than just experience in writing and promoting content.
Most importantly, I had the opportunity to communicate directly with the Korean representative of the company and experience working together.
From our first meeting, the representative welcomed me warmly and even prepared a small gift for me. At first, I felt a little nervous about working with a Korean representative, but through our activities, I gradually learned how to communicate more naturally.
Thanks to the representative, I also had the opportunity to participate in the IEUM Fellowship Busan program.
Through the program, I met wonderful people and experienced Korean social life and workplace culture a little more closely.
One of the most valuable parts was working on a small project with my Korean partner. We didnโt simply participate in the program; we organized our ideas together and created an actual project, which was a very meaningful experience for me.
I also built a good relationship with our group mentor.
Even after the program ended, we met again, and later my partner and I went to Seoul to visit our mentorโs workplace.
Our mentor showed us around the company and introduced us to the workplace. It gave me a small glimpse of what it is like to work in a large Korean company.
That day, our mentor also treated us to dinner and prepared some small gifts from the company.
It was a warm and memorable experience.
Seeing the actual workplace also motivated me to think about my own future in Korea and what I should prepare for it.
๐ค Another Experience with the Representative
I also had the opportunity to participate in an interview conducted by the representative.
At first, I was a little nervous, but it wasnโt a formal or stiff interview. We had lunch together and continued the interview at a cafรฉ in a comfortable and natural atmosphere.
The representative was also preparing another service for foreigners, and I had the opportunity to share my opinions and experiences from the perspective of an international student.
That was another meaningful experience for me.
๐ฑ What I Gained from the Activity
First, practical experience.
I gained experience close to real work by writing and promoting content directly on websites and communities.
Second, communication skills.
I learned how to communicate with different people by working with the representative, mentor, Korean partner, and other foreigners.
Third, the experience of stepping outside my Comfort Zone.
At first, I wasnโt confident and didnโt know where to start. But once I started solving each problem step by step, I gradually became more confident.
Fourth, experience with Korean social and workplace culture.
Through the program, project, meetings with my mentor, and company visit, I was able to experience something that can be difficult to experience through university life alone.
Finally, motivation for my future goals.
After visiting an actual workplace and listening to my mentorโs experiences, I started thinking again about what I need to prepare now for the future I want.
๐ก The Biggest Thing I Learned
Through this activity, I learned how to find useful information for others within my own experiences.
Things that I used to simply pass by started to make me think:

I began paying more attention to my everyday life.
The things I experienced in Korea, the difficulties I had when I first came here, and the small things I learned during university life can actually be valuable information for someone else.

I think communities are really important for foreigners living in Korea.
If you join communities or group chats where foreigners from different countries communicate, you can find useful information about daily life, housing, university, administration, jobs, and many other things.
Sometimes, getting information from another foreigner who has actually experienced something can be much more helpful than trying to figure everything out alone.
So if you are coming to Korea for the first time, I recommend finding different foreigner communities and building a network where you can exchange useful information.
