KAIST Impact MBA Alumni Launch Hands-On Entrepreneurship Program for Youth in Geoje
Companies founded by graduates of the KAIST Impact MBA have launched a hands-on entrepreneurship education program for young people in Geoje, where startup founders and executives serve as mentors. The program assigns two startup mentors to each student and uses generative AI to help participants develop their ideas into prototype-level business solutions.
On the 7th, KAILOS, a consortium of KAIST Impact MBA alumni companies, announced that it is partnering with the Geoje University RISE Project Group to operate an industry academia collaboration program aimed at strengthening local youth employment and entrepreneurship.
KAILOS is a network of companies founded by graduates of the KAIST Impact MBA, a social venture development program jointly operated by KAIST and Happiness Foundation (Happy Narae). The consortium was established to give back to local communities by sharing its members' entrepreneurial experience and expertise.
The consortium includes nine startups: UD Impact, Rectors, Piero Company, DiverCity House, Kangsters, Glowide, Shell Corporation, East to West, and Glocal X. Together, they provide expertise in entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence (AI), regional business development, ESG, branding, safety, and healthcare.
In April, KAILOS signed a memorandum of understanding with the Geoje University RISE Project Group and the Geoje Gohyeon Autonomous Commercial District Association to promote the city's marine tourism industry and strengthen the local startup ecosystem.
Based on this partnership, the organizations are jointly operating youth entrepreneurship and employment programs while developing business models that combine Geoje's marine industry with its tourism resources. Their goal is to help university students transform business ideas into practical ventures that can be implemented within local industries and commercial districts.
The first collaborative program, the KAILIT Local Innovation Team Camp, was held over two days beginning July 23 at the KT&G Sangsangmadang Startup Space in Busan.
Each Geoje University student was paired with two mentors startup founders or senior executives—who provided one-on-one guidance throughout the program. Participants attended lectures by startup leaders, identified business ideas to solve regional challenges, and used generative AI to develop their concepts into working prototypes before presenting their final projects.
The curriculum was designed to provide an intensive introduction to the startup journey, covering idea generation, market analysis, service design, prototyping, and pitching within a short period.
Kang Kim, CEO of Kangsters and the program director, said: "The greatest achievement of this camp was giving students the opportunity to learn directly from experienced entrepreneurs and transform their own ideas into viable business models. We will continue expanding collaboration to strengthen the practical skills and entrepreneurial capabilities of young people in the region."
Looking ahead, KAILOS plans to expand its initiatives across the Gyeongnam region by offering customized entrepreneurship education, internship opportunities, and industry projects linked to employment. The consortium aims to help address youth outmigration and employment challenges in regions facing population decline by combining academic education with real-world business experience.
Kyungmoon Kim, Chairman of the KAILOS Consortium, said: "We will continue developing diverse industry–academia collaboration models so that young people can receive high-quality entrepreneurship education and turn their ideas into reality without leaving their hometowns."
The KAIST Impact MBA is an educational program jointly operated by KAIST and Happy Narae to strengthen the management capabilities of social venture entrepreneurs. In addition to business education, the program provides expert mentoring, market development support, and promotional assistance to help startups achieve sustainable growth.
