Have you heard of Dongbaek Pass and K-Pass yet? If you are living in Busan and want to budget your transportation costs, the city offers two very useful systems - Dongbaek Pass and K-Pass. As someone who used to spend 70,000–80,000 KRW per month during busy months, these two systems are real budget savers.

The Dongbaek Pass is a transportation cashback system linked to the Dongbaekjeon card. If your monthly transportation usage exceeds 45,000 KRW (from the 1st to the last day of the month), up to 45,000 KRW can be refunded through Dongbaekjeon.

To sign up, you need to register for a Dongbaekjeon card and activate the pass. In my case, I visited a Busan Bank branch, where I was able to apply and receive the physical Dongbaekjeon card right away. Don’t forget to bring your ARC~

Another useful system is the K-Pass. Instead of a fixed cashback threshold, it provides partial reimbursements based on how frequently you use public transportation each month (at least 15 times). Even if you do not spend 45,000 KRW per month, you can still receive benefits through the K-Pass.

The refund rate varies by category: general users receive 20%, young adults receive 30%, and low-income individuals receive 53%. Young adults are defined as those aged 19 to 34.

An important point is that Dongbaek Pass and K-Pass can now be used together. You can sign up for the K-Pass using your Dongbaekjeon card. Under the “K-Pass-Dongbaek” program, users automatically receive the higher reimbursement between the two systems.

Overall, these two systems are especially useful for foreigners living in Busan, making daily transportation expenses more affordable and easier to manage. Don’t forget to sign up!
